FELT LIKE is an experimental research project by third-year Product Design students from Willem de Kooning Academy in collaboration with In-Zee. They explored the limits and potential of PET-Felt, a felt-like material made from at least 60% recycled plastic. It is exhibited at the Dutch Design Week 2022 in the Klokgebouw.
Flux
To become fluid I am interested in exploring new facets of the PET felt that would not appear feasible at first glance. By applying high heat, the felt becomes fluid. Afterwards I guide the melted plastic into its final form, resulting in a strong contrast between the soft felt and rigid plastic. This contrast is further emphasized by the color blue, which makes the matte and glossy appearance more visible. My final result is a study of aesthetics and texture. I will then develop this technique into a functional product.
