The Colourist
The aim of this research project is to revive the ancient craft of pigment making and examine what it takes to replicate it in a modern world where speed and efficiency are of the highest priority. I started by collecting stones and shells from my environment and grinding them into powder pigments, using a lengthy and labor-intensive process. The final outcome of this minor was an elaborate research project on the ancient craft of pigment making. It contained 20 different powder pigments, applications of the powders on wood, metal, and ceramics, and a supporting film on the manufacturing process to help visualize the lengthy yet beautiful craft.
